Being a Mac user, I’d missed the memo about PCs getting unbelievably cheap again. InformationWeek managed to price a terabyte file server at $500: needless to say, it skimps on pretty much everything, most noticably RAID or backup (how do you backup a terabyte? Buy 2!).

I managed to price a similar system at about £390 – a rough difference of 35%. Even given sales tax quibbles, that’s a quarter more to buy a system.

Then I priced it in Finland, and it was 700€. Sigh.
